From the Ionian to the Adriatic, the most beautiful stretches of sand in Italy
Thinking about a summer holiday in Salento means being spoiled for choice on the seaside resort to choose, because the Heel of Italy is fortunately full of beautiful beaches!
We know well that a guide like “The 10 most beautiful beaches …” almost always risks to displease someone. So let’s start immediately from a trivial as well as fundamental consideration: having the claim to indicate the most beautiful beaches of Salento, limiting the choice to only 10, is very difficult if not impossible. The opposite is also true: indicate one by one ALL the beaches that a land like Salento, with 215 km of coastline and at least 4 distinct coastal morphotypes, has to offer.
However, tourists who choose to visit for the first time a destination they know little or nothing about, like the idea of a ready-made “concept map of holidays”. A vademecum of local beauties, yes, but also of pragmatism, ruler of our chaotic and hasty days.

It should be noted that in this post we are talking about “beaches” for convenience, but what we mean in practice is “stretch of coast / access to the sea”, precisely by virtue of the fact that the Salento coast properly constituted by deposits of sand or gravel represents in all just over a quarter of the total length, or 27% of the entire perimeter of the peninsula, which instead for 41% gives way to long stretches of rocky coast, fortunately mostly flat.
The goal we propose is to put some order, so to speak, among the coastal wonders of Salento, with a short but comprehensive overview that allows you to choose YOUR favorite Salento beaches (or cliffs!). In general, the parameter used to arrive at a selection was undoubtedly beauty, which however – as we know – is a very subjective value. For this reason we have also chosen to take into account the important awards obtained over the years by these beaches: the Sails, conferred by Legambiente and the Touring Club; the Blue Flags, recognized by FEE-ITALIA for the most beautiful beaches and the cleanest sea and which have just been announced for 2016; and the Green Flags, assigned by Italian pediatricians to child-friendly beaches. All with an eye also to the services offered, indicating which of them have adequate assistance for disabled people.
